Understanding the Intertwining of Artificial Intelligence and Human Bias

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been the buzzword in the tech world for a while now. Touted as the future of innovation and efficiency, AI has begun to permeate various aspects of everyday life. Recognizing that AI bias is a genuine issue is the first step in mitigating this problem. Increased transparency in the algorithms AI uses, coupled with ongoing monitoring and auditing are also critical measures. Additionally, diverse and inclusive data sets for AI training can help reduce bias.

Without these steps, our technology may continue to reflect back the bias already present in society – amplifying it, or even worse, legitimizing it.

Is AI biased? Yes, but not independently. It’s biased because we are biased, and this is what we feed to our machines.
